Is Candy AI free?
Partly. Candy AI offers a free account ("Join Free" on the site) and describes a free trial so you can get a feel for the platform with no commitment. You can browse the character library, see how characters are presented and try the chat. The full experience is a paid premium subscription. Candy AI is not a fully free AI girlfriend app, and no serious service with images and voice is, because running these models costs real money.

What premium adds
On 31 October 2026, Candy AI's subscription page listed these premium benefits:
- Unlimited text messages
- 100 tokens per month
- Creating your own AI girlfriend(s)
- Image and video generation
- The "Live Action" experience
Tokens are the currency for media. Images, voice and video use them, and you can buy more if you run out. More detailed custom characters also use more tokens, according to Candy AI.

Exact free limits are not published in detail and can change, so treat the free account as a test drive.
How much is Candy AI if you upgrade?
These are the prices shown to us on 31 October 2026 (USD, before local taxes): $3.99 per month on the 12-month plan ($47.88 billed yearly), $8.99 per month on the 3-month plan ($26.97 per quarter), or $9.99 for the first month on the monthly plan, then $13.99 per month. How to test Candy AI properly for free
- Pick one character you like instead of jumping between many.
- Introduce yourself with a few details and see whether replies feel personal.
- Test the tone. Ask her to be playful, supportive or shy and check she stays in character.
- Check the subscription page so you know the current price and renewal terms.
- Decide based on what you will use. If you only ever want text, a monthly plan may be enough. If you want images and voice, budget for tokens.
Is premium worth it?
If you enjoyed the free chat and want unlimited messages, your own custom girlfriend and pictures or voice notes, premium is where Candy AI shines. The yearly plan is by far the cheapest per month, but only choose it if you are confident you will keep using it. If you are unsure, the monthly plan is the safer first step. Watch out for "Candy AI free premium" offers
Be careful with websites promising free Candy AI premium, cracked accounts, mod APKs or unlimited free tokens. These are not official and often carry malware or phishing. Only sign up on candy.ai itself, and read is Candy AI safe? for more tips.
Free account vs. free trial: what's the difference?
People often use the two terms interchangeably, but they are worth separating. A free account is simply signing up without paying. You can explore the site, see the characters and get a first impression of the chat. A free trial usually means time-limited access to paid features. Candy AI's own wording talks about starting "slow with the free trial" to get a feel for the platform with no commitment. Because the exact free limits aren't published in detail and can change, assume the free experience is a preview rather than a long-term free plan.
Who should stay on the free account?
Staying free makes sense if you only want to see what an AI girlfriend is like, or if you're comparing a few platforms before choosing one. It's also a sensible step if you're unsure whether you'll use it more than once or twice. If you find yourself coming back several times a week, the limits of a free account will get in the way, and premium (especially unlimited text chat) is where the experience becomes consistent.
